NC Study finds an Artistic Economy apart from the Independent Artists.

The NC Arts Council has provided findings on the 2009 NC Dept. of Commerce study launched to identify the artistic impact on NC economy. They had apparently dug the depths of occupations ranging everywhere from Archeology services to renovators, grant writers to Bookstores and educators, trades abound within the study that touts  the states creative industry of nearly 300,000 jobs and a market value of $41.4 billion.
Since I believe that the driving force behind "Art" would be Independent Artists, I quickly ran through the exhaustive study to find the line item that identified the head count of the "indie" artists of the state... the count?  only 589! - Now understandably, I may not have read the study correctly, I mean, who could? it is much the same as any governmental paperwork, weighty in the abstracts with codes, definitions and re-definitions. But to be sure! the study only found 589 Independent Artists?

If North Carolina can only identify 589 Independent Artists then our $41.4 billion dollar economy based in art is in jeopardy.
Here is why... our nations most innovative and celebrated Artists and most cherished works of Art comprise the nucleus and first cause of the performance of Art, not the pretension of Art. As we continue to digress by elevating the industry rather then the Artists and their work, we damage the very holding power, the glue, the poetry and fiber of Art.  - Tom Kilian, IBXarts

Our goal has always been to promote the artists of the Inner Banks in an attractive and powerful way, yet keep it at no cost to those who we are supporting.  During these difficult times, many artists just don't have the money to promote themselves, On that same note, most people don't realize that it costs me time, resources and money to keep this site and growing organization going. Next May 2010, we have vowed to keep the IBXarts Fest free to exhibiting artists as well as patrons and plan to keep our promise. In that respect, please consider making a donation (no matter how small) to help keep IBXarts alive and thriving.

I can't do it without your help.
Please donate.
