Laura Frye, Watercolor - Beaufort County

Picture
On Wednesday, August 17 and Thursday, August 18. The New World Festival of the Arts is a juried exhibition featuring 80 selected artists from Vermont to Florida exhibiting and selling their works on the Manteo Waterfront. This two-day outdoor art show has been held since 1981.
Among this years showing Artist is Beaufort County's aclaimed WaterColor Artist, Laura Frye. When asked about how she captures the moment as she does, Laura responded " I believe art is a language that speaks to the heart. I use watercolors as my medium, capturing the life around me in vibrant colors, giving my viewer a sense of wonder as they see the world through my work."
Laura lives and works in the coastal region of North Carolina. She graduated from Fairmont State College specializing in graphic art and is currently a senior at East Carolina University, working on her BFA in Art Education.  Laura's diverse perspective is something that natives will relate to quickly..
"My subject matter is as diverse as my moods, sometimes quiet, and other times full of energy. I love to paint shorebirds, landscapes, men working, children playing and the little things in life that you might not see if you are moving too fast." - Laura shares.

It is true, in a time when the world seems to be in a rush, Laura's tranquil expressions bring back the solid foundation we all long for and desire.

Frye’s work can be found in many private collections  and is available from her home studio. For more information, contact the artist through her website, www.laurafrye.com

Erik Mattsson, Mixed Media - Washington County

Picture
If you attempted to squeeze Erik into a particular genre, you would be sadly mistaken. His work is noted to stimulate the intellect yet transcends into the spiritual and for good reason. Erik shares, " I came to America by boat, from Stockholm. My parents, gifted academicians, have left me full of multi-cultural interests and a desire to know as much as possible about our world." working in clay for my own sculptures, I was drawn to a particular vessel that was wheel thrown. "Nice piece" I said, Erik replies " yes, that is a favorite hand built work of mine", "HAND BUILT?" I ask? - yes, although nearly perfect in cylindrical form, the piece I held netted Erik praise from his university. Erik confides: "Artists must make art. whether early, or late, they rise with one thing on their mind. Create the vision, both for self-evaluation and self-expression. The object of fear is not-doing; the acceptance of critics is immaterial. Preserving an observation, a feeling, a special moment in your life, is all that matters. Knowing your medium, and contacting your muse, you must make art. Because I see and hear and feel, I create works which set me free from the moment. All things are temporal, even in bronze, but your hope has been preserved, for a while. Live on, sweet muse."
